Free West Papua Campaign (Netherlands)
The founding of the Free West Papua Campaign in the United Kingdom inspired Papuans who had fled to the Netherlands to establish a local branch there in 2005. Activism had already been taking place since the 1960s, when the first refugee families arrived. But with the launch of the Dutch branch, a formal collaboration was established for the first time with the Wenda family in the UK. The Dutch chapter has grown from a reactive action group into a key player in the fields of activism, culture, society, and education.
Mission
We are a peaceful, public campaign with one clear goal: to give the people of West Papua the freedom to determine their own future through a fair and transparent referendum – a freedom they have always been denied. In addition to the historical connection with the Netherlands, freedom for West Papua also brings us one step closer to climate justice.
